Easy Skillet Green Beans

Ok, I officially want to build a new house! Last week I told you that my parents purchased a home here in Tejas .. that’s what us Texans like to call Texas sometimes … I know I’m so legit right 🙂

Any who, they purchased a lot and are building a new home. Which means they get to pick out all the “goods” that go inside that house! Jealous!

Yesterday was the beginning of that and Cason and I got to go with my mom to start the process!

All three of us walked into this design center and wow was it impressive and overwhelming all at the same time. It was kinda like walking into Ikea where they have mock up living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, etc everywhere. Except this place had shelves filled with every kind of cabinet color and style, back splash, floor tile, bathroom tile, lights, carpet, wood floor, faucets, sinks, tubs, the list goes on. Everything you can imagine!

I really wanted to help my mom out and try to solidify some selections for her. I figured, let’s start with the focal point of the home… the kitchen. Plus the kitchen is where my mom and I bond the most anyways so it’s a natural place to start. 🙂

To get the ball rolling, Cason and I just started pulling out a few cabinet colors. We found a few she liked, jotted them down and then moved on to the counter tops. She is really wanting to get Quartz in her kitchen so we headed to that area of the design center and focused in on two colors that she loved. By the end of the night we were able to solidify the counter top color, cabinet design and color, backsplash, and wood floor color.

After I left it got me giddy to start designing our new home… although it is still 2 years down the road. But, a girl can dream. I will live vicariously through my mom until then. 🙂 hehe

Why Cook Green Beans in a Skillet?

This Easy Skillet Green Bean Recipe will rock your world. Everything is made in one pan using only 5 ingredients. Can’t get simpler than that folks! The only “prep” that needs to be done for this dish is mincing the garlic. That’s it. Say hello to your new best friend!

Not only are these Skillet Green Beans crazy easy to make but the flavor the green beans get from charring in the skillet is like none other. That is saying a lot for me. Usually I am a “roast all the veggies” kinda girl but there is something special about sautéing these green beans until they are slightly charred on the sides. Then adding fresh garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes at the end for a slam bam finish.

Adding these flavors at the end of the cooking process instead of the beginning leaves the green beans tasting incredible light and fresh. I was snacking on these like they were french fries throughout the day .. they are that good.

Hope you enjoy sweet friends. Bon Appetite .. until next time! 🙂

How do you know when green beans are done on the stove? ›

You want them to be blistered and tender, but still have a little “snap.” When properly cooked, green beans should still have a crisp texture, and a vibrant, bright green color.

How many minutes does it take to cook green beans? ›

The key to the best beans is to master how long to boil green beans. Cook the green beans, covered, in a small amount of boiling salted water until crisp-tender: 10 to 15 minutes for whole or cut green beans. 5 to 10 minutes for french-cut green beans.

What can I add to green beans for flavor? ›

Butter: A bit of butter adds a rich flavor and helps the seasoning stick to the green beans. Seasoned salt: Buy seasoned salt from the store, or make your own seasoned salt at home. Chili powder: This is an unexpected knockout seasoning. Chili powder adds a touch of spice and color without being too overpowering.

How do you know when beans are cooked enough? ›

If the water level drops below the beans, add more water so the beans are covered at all times. The beans are done cooking when they're all tender; you can test this as they by smooshing a bean or two against the side of the pot with a fork — it should collapse easily, but not be mushy.

You can safely estimate that one handful of green beans will serve one person, or two people if you have other green sides, Hartigan says. While these calculations seem straightforward, the full breadth of your menu could reduce the IRL size of each serving—after all, there's only so much room on one plate.

How can I jazz up green beans? ›

You can also add almonds or hazelnuts if you want to give your green beans an even more unique flavor. You can add any of these nuts and seeds to a simple green beans dish or a salad. Do you rinse green beans before cooking? ›

Rinse the green beans under cool water and shake dry. Trim the stem end from the beans and halve any very long beans. Sauté the beans. Heat the oil in a large straight-sided skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.

Why cut ends off green beans? ›

The only part of the bean that always needs to be removed is the tip of the stem end (this is sometimes called "topping" the bean), where the pod was once attached to the rest of the plant. There is no practical need to remove the tail end of a green bean—the choice to do so is aesthetic.

Are my green beans done? ›

Should green beans be hard or soft? ›

When the water reaches a rolling boil, add the green beans and stir gently until the water returns to a boil. Cook until just tender but not mushy, about 4 to 4 ½ minutes.

Do green beans have to be fully cooked? ›

While some recipes call for raw green beans, eating them uncooked may lead to nausea, diarrhea, bloating, and vomiting due to their lectin content. As such, it's best to avoid raw green beans. Cooking not only neutralizes their lectins but also improves their taste, digestibility, and antioxidant content.
