Classic, intense thriller has great characters; violence.

  • Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that The Day of the Jackal is a book-based thriller series about a near-unstoppable sniper and the MI6 agent who's trying to catch him. It's tense, with sporadic but intense violence. The use of guns and their details play a large role in this series; one of the main characters is a gun expert while the other is a sharpshooter. Characters are shot point blank in the head; there's some blood. Expect explosions, protests, and lots of killings. Characters have sex, no nudity. Language includes "s--t," f--k," and "bitch."

What's the Story?

When an assasin known as the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) kills Manfred Fest, a controversial German government official, M16 gun specialist Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch) believes she has the expertise and connections to track him down. Meanwhile, the Jackal is hiding out, pretending to lead a perfect life with his beautiful wife in a luxurious Spanish mansion. But he hasn't gotten paid for his last kill, and is getting the runaround from his next potential job. After a tragic coincidence stalls Pullman's search, it looks like the Jackal may slip through the cracks once again.

This sleek, chic thriller is a gripping retelling of Frederick Forsyth's classic cat-and-mouse tale. Lynch and Redmayne, though they share no screen time, play against each other beautifully in The Day of the Jackal—both characters have families they love, and both are highly motivated to succeed in their separate goals. It's a tense mystery, and even though it's a little by-the-books, this series is perfect for those looking for a classic thriller with a modern edge.
