"A couple of hours spent on the Universal Studios tour, a few minutes checking out the footprints in the front of the Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard, perhaps a swing through Beverly Hills to glimpse some movie-star mansions that, for most visitors, is Hollywood," says Richard Alleman, author of the recently published "The Movie Lover's Guide to Hollywood" (Harper and Row Colophon, "And most come away disappointed, because what they have done is just whetted their appetites on the coming attractions without ever bothering to stay around for the main feature," says Alleman, once an aspiring actor who lived in Hollywood for seven years.
